marni x h&m\ let’s quickly talk about how incredible this collection is and how absolutely heartbroken i am that i missed it go out in the h&m stores, march 8th. if you missed it, you’re fucked, because everything is sold out. and i mean, everything. but! for those of you who did miss this incredible collection of bold prints, chunky necklaces, and silk patterned shorts there might be another way to score some of these precious items… wait for it………. eBay! i’ve been all over eBay and there’s already over 2,000 items being sold. i’m actually quite shocked how many items are being sold on there since it just came out 6 days ago, but lucky for us! now we can fetch as many items as we want without standing on a long line for over 3 hours….. enjoy!
erdem\ oh! i look forward to this collection every year and every year i’m never disappointed. even though my casual/bum side of me is to dress in tons of menswear layering, my feminine side is circa 1950s-1960s with floral dresses, bows, sun hats, and teeny tiny handbags. erdem is for my inner girly girl because i absolutely am in love with their acclaimed exquisite floral dresses with full skirts and lace. however, this collection was a bit different. the color palette was more “dark” with fuchsia and blue accents compared to his spring collection where the color palette looked like it was from a victorian era painting. in this collection, Erdem Moralioglu used black rubber latex to embroider through delicate lace and tweed. it sounds tacky, but the results obviously weren’t.
diesel black gold\ i was surprised by how much i loved this collection, because usually diesel black gold doesn’t even make it into my top 10 favorite collections of fashion week. this time around it might be different! lately i’ve been completely obsessed with menswear and this collection reflected that with a feminine side — full of blacks & grays, lavenders & purples, burnt oranges & browns; a color palette that looked magnificent together, slouchy maxi skirts that were shown at the hip attached by a thick belt buckle, tons of layering [my favorite: men’s boxer shorts layered underneath metallic shorts], defined & dramatic trench coats, a pop of leopard print, splattered denim jeans, and a black & white knit sweater with an image from the pop art days. this collection looked completely effortless, effortless and cool.
david koma\ this collection had so much going on that i didn’t know where to look first. however, i admired it. the beginning of the collection was full of blacks, whites, and grays with an edgy attitude. each dress had more than enough going on — structured collars, leather silhouettes, black transparent sleeves, cut-outs, and thick silver buckles. but towards the middle of the collection, there seemed to be a dramatic change — a burst of color with beautiful geometric jewels placed evenly around the dress or coat paired with black silk trousers with a band of color wrapped around the leg. the dresses with the jewels looked beautiful and were definitely my favorite of the bunch.
christopher kane\ i loved this collection for a bunch of reasons. first, kane was inspired by the gay serial-killer film ‘cruising’ featuring al pacino which consisted of a lot of sex, mindfucking, and s&m. the film inspired this collection & bring out the dark, voyeuristic, sinful vibe. he used a disorganized color palette of blacks, blues, reds, and purples in lace, giant velvet flowers, vertical pinstripes, and metallic leopard print crica the late 1980s punk scene. this collection had a variety of things going for it with a ton of different vibes, but the fact that it was christopher kane who created it, he was able to pull it off.
burberry prorsum\ i’ll be completely honest and say that this hasn’t been my favorite burberry collection because of the way the looks have been put together. however, there were some fabulous pieces within this collection — mix/match, tweed pencil skirts, the adorable suede bow belts, thick striped maxi skirts, tons of tweed!, the printed tops with cute animals, the oversized pockets of the jackets & skirts, the tweed conductor’s hat, and the overall silhouettes of the coats/jackets. there is no denying that there were some incredible jackets in this collection, but then again, there always are from the mind of christopher bailey.
alexandre herchcovitch\ a lovely ladylike collection full of elegance and class in shades of brown, pumpkin, gold, and yellow. beautiful structured coats in suede, gold collars, light yellow lace tiered dresses, gold metallic leather trousers, lace-up brogues, and victorian meets gothic vibes. all in all it was an exquisite collection. every look was perfected & had the vibe the designer was going for. i would love to own more than half of these beautiful dresses.
acne\ i am a huge fan of the swedish designer of Acne, Jonny Johansson. each and every collection i see as a masterpiece, and this one is no exception. this collection was all about a distorted perception — incredibly oversized biker jackets, coats, trousers, and sweatshirts in all different colors and materials ranging from leather to spandex in yellow, red, bright neon green, and orange with a sporty/athletic edge to it all. this could have been a huge ‘fail’ but with Johansson’s fantastic mind, we knew he would pull this off.
i haven’t updated this fashion blog in a bit due to my busy schedule, but now that i’m on spring break, all i’ll have is time! even though i’m a bit late with some of the runway shows, i’ll still be updating on them. here’s the first:
a détacher\ a very quiet humble occasion with a collection consisting of a fall color palette (blacks, browns, grays, and beige) with a pop of red, orange, & bright pink mixing in with bold plaids, striking cape-like coats, dramatic orange makeup, printed blouses, argyle stockings, thick high-waisted skirts, and comfy/cozy knit sweaters. this collection was the closest to a “fall” collection as you can get with the feel of hot chocolate with marshmellows and a toasty fireplace nearby.
derek lam\ holy shit — i’m drooling right now!! this collection has everything a collection should have, IMO. paisley brocade leather skirts, gold-dipped oxfords, floral booties, a clash of 1950s/1960s vibe, bouffant & beehive hairstyle (my hair is actually in a ponytail beehive right now)!, collared peacoats, and chunky knit sweaters over chiffon maxi skirts. amazing!!!!! I applaud derek lam to the fullest and I would wear each and every piece from this collection while strutting my shit to no end.
